Joshua 7:10-12 - 10The Lord said to Joshua, "Stand up! What are you doing down on your face? 11Israel has sinned; they have violated my covenant, which I commanded them to keep. They have taken some of the devoted things; they have stolen, they have lied, they have put them with their own possessions. 12That is why the Israelites cannot stand against their enemies, they turn their backs and run because they have been made liable to destruction. I will not be with you anymore unless you destroy whatever among you is devoted to destruction."
Wow, these are some scary verses and there were a few things that jumped out and grabbed me...
1. There is a time to weep and confess and there is a time to get up and repent. - v. 10
Yes, we must confess our sins but it doesn't stop there, we must do something about it. Go deal with the sin! Get rid of it!
2. One sin always leads to another sin - v.11
Its never just one thing; one thing leads to another and then another. Sin will multiple if given the chance.
3. Don't touch what belongs to God - v.11
Achan took what was suppose to be set aside for God. Every time I have a bad attitude, I disobey, I cause disunity, etc. I put my hands on what belongs to God. God said he wants all of me and when I do my own thing I'm guilty of taking what belongs to him.
4. Kill the sin before it kills you - v.12
God wants sin destroyed. He cannot stand it. If I don't destroy it, it will eventually come out and destroy me.
It wasn't until Joshua went in and cleaned house that they were able to go on and continue to have victory and win the land that God promised. What's in your life that might keep you from winning that next battle? Destroy it! Don't let it destroy you.
